At infancy, Emera was left at the doorsteps of a family in Barcelona. Her single mother wanted her to have a better life, as the note in her basket stated. The people who would become her step-parents were grateful as they weren't able to bare their own children. Emera, a short version of Emerald, was given her name simply for the fact that she was wearing green on the day of her arrival.

From that day forward, Emera became part of one of the most well respected family of Barcelona. Her step-mother's older brother and his wife were famous musketeers, well known around Europe. They were both blessed with two sons, Fernando and Gabriel, who Emera considered her cousins despite not being blood related. Emera would learn swordplay throughout her life, and she would spar with her cousins once she was a bit older.

Life was happy for Emera, until tragedy struck when she was 13. Fernando and Gabriel's parents were killed while on a mission in the East, an event which devastating the family. Emera had coped with her grieving by training herself in the forests outside of Barcelona, a place where she felt content with no worries.

Five years later, Emera was told that Fernando would be heading to the East to seek vengeance for her parents' death. Gabriel was meant to stay behind. However, upon his brother's departure, Gabriel was able to convince Emera to travel with him in order to help his brother. Emera knew for a fact that her step-parents would object to her leaving, but she didn't care, as she wanted to help her cousins. Leaving a note behind, Emera takes her leave.
